2024 Pryor Creek Comic Con set for Saturday
Word Balloons #1240: UFO Cowboys among guests of Oklahoma convention
Fans looking for a comic show with an old-school vibe could do worse than to visit this weekend’s Pryor Creek Comic Book Convention.
The 2024 show is set for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Mayes County Event Center on the fairgrounds in Pryor, Oklahoma.
The Cowboy Skywatchers from the “UFO Cowboys” Roku original TV series are among the guests.
“The UFO Cowboys have never done the comic con thing before, so give them a big welcome and be sure to share with them any stories you have about paranormal/extraterrestrial experiences,” wrote con organizers at the Pryor Creek Comic Book Convention Facebook page.
According to the description from the Roku channel, the UFO Cowboys, or Cowboy Skywatchers, are a team of cowboys who investigate mysterious extraterrestrial sightings taking place in the Wild West. Led by UFO expert Jeff, who first encountered unexplained extraterrestrial behavior on a buffalo ranch in the early 1990s, the Cowboy Skywatchers use a combination of tried-and-true cowboy tracking methods and cutting-edge technology as they search for answers.
Fiddler Jana Jae is also set to appear at the convention around noon.
Jae, a member of the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, rose to fame in the 1970s when performing on the CBS/syndicated television series “Hee Haw.”
According to the convention's Facebook page, the convention will feature a cash-prize cosplay contest, a Super Smash Bros tournament, and vendors with a variety of pop-culture items, including comics, magazines, books, toys, action figures, artwork, and movie posters.
Oklahoma-area comic creators are set to be on hand as well, with Brad Ashworth, Chuck Miller, John Wooley, John Ketcher, Rob Soul, Brad Matthews, Michael Garrett, James Hostler, and the Equinox Comics creators, among the authors, writers, and artists slated to attend.
The Pryor Creek Comic Convention is presented by the Pryor Area Arts and Humanities Council. Admission is $5. Kids 10 and under are admitted free.
