Comics fans can get ready to go batty on Saturday.
DC Comics will join forces with comic stores and other entities worldwide to celebrate “Batman Day” on Saturday, Sept. 16. Several comic-book stores in the metro area will be celebrating as well. Batman, first introduced in 1939, is celebrating 84 years on this year’s “Batman Day” celebration. The first Batman Day was held in 2014 to celebrate 75 years of Batman.
Speeding Bullet Comics, 614 N. Porter Ave. in Norman, Oklahoma, will celebrate with promotional comics, exclusive items for sale, a new DC Black Label series, and special giveaways! We also expect a special edition of the “Batman ’89” hardcover.
Following the Bat-sales at Speeding Bullet, head to the after-Bat-party hosted by Christophe at NCom Cyberhall, 914 W Main in Norman, Oklahoma.
DC.com has announced the following Bat-related special titles:
Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War: Prelude Batman Day Special Edition #1 – This free comic features a 10-page prelude story and preview pages from Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War: Battle Lines #1, as Batman and Catwoman battle over Gotham City’s future.
Batman & The Joker: The Deadly Duo #1 Batman Day Special Edition – A special free edition of Batman & The Joker: The Deadly Duo from Image Comics founder Marc Silvestri will be released on Batman Day.
Batman #608: Batman Day Special Edition – A $9.99 foil edition of Batman #608, part one of the “Hush” storyline by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee, will be released for Batman Day. The comic will feature a foil version of Jim Lee’s second printing cover.
Batman ’89 Hardcover Collection –Batman ’89 continues the story of the ’89 film with new adventures from Batman screenwriter Sam Hamm that are illustrated by Joe Quinones. For Batman Day, a version of the hardcover with a dust jacket paying homage to the iconic movie poster for the 1989 film will be on sale.
Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham #1 – Eisner Award-winning writer and artist Rafael Grampá and colorist Matheus Lopes are the creative team for this DC Black Label series. This new story is scheduled for first-time release on Batman Day.
Theatrical options
Several OKC-metro theaters will be showing the trilogy or part of the trilogy of Bat-films starring Christian Bale as part of “Batman Day.” Regal Warren Moore, Harkins Bricktown, and AMC Quail Springs Mall have all 3 films scheduled for viewing on Saturday.

The retro-styled comics convention OAFCon will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 17 at the Embassy Suites in Norman, Oklahoma.
Admission is $10; $5 for members of the Oklahoma Alliance of Fans.
Kids 10 and under are free.
