Comic-book holiday tales celebrate the season
Word Balloons #1247: As 2024 draws to a close, several publishers join in the merriment with holiday-themed stories
With Christmas just around the corner, here’s a look at some holiday comics you might be able to find at your local comic shop or elsewhere this season!
“Through the Boughs” #1
This 64-page collection from DSTLRY features stories from James Tynion IV, Patrick McHale, Jim Campbell and others set in the holiday times or with holiday themes.
“The Rocketfellers” #2
The time-displaced family from the 25th Century still wants to celebrate Christmas – so the search is on for a Christmast tree! The second issue of this Ghost Machine title is from the creative team of Peter Tomasi and Francis Manapul.
Top Cow Holiday Special 2024
Three eight-page stories feature three of Top Cow’s best-known characters: Witchblade, Darkness and Aphrodite IX, each celebrating a Christmas tale in their own way!
Marvel Holiday Tales to Astonish #1
In this Marvel special, the Fantastic Four's Holiday Party faces uninvited guests; Kitty Pryde shops for her X-pals and celebrates Hanukkah when danger strikes; and Peter Parker and Miles Morales ring in the New Year.
Alligator Loki Holiday Special #1
Marvel also celebrates the holiday season – somehow – with an Alligator Loki special collecting issues #13-24 of the “Alligator Loki” Infinity Comic for the first time in print.
Silverline Christmas Special 2024
Oklahoma writer R.A. Jones shares a Christmas tale of vampire hunter “Twilight Grimm” as part of the “Silverline Christmas Special 2024.” Rob Davis provides the art for the Twilight Grimm tale.
Other holiday tales in the issue feature the characters from “Trumps” and “Kayless.”
DC’s “Batman Smells, Robin Laid an Egg” Special
DC leans into the parody ‘Jingle Bells’ lyrics for this holiday special title, which features six anthology stories. Characters include Dr. Midnight, Deadman, and the Joker.
These are just a few of the holiday stories and specials around for 2024 – feel free to let us know your favorite!
