Family conversations lead to weekly comic strip
Word Balloons #1203: Oklahoma man's "Based on a Conversation" seeks crowdfunding
An Oklahoma man’s comic strip featuring family anecdotes is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter.
“Based on a Conversation” is a collection of weekly strips posted by Dan O’Donoghue via Instagram featuring the humorous observations of a father of young children.
Here’s how he describes his inspiration on the Kickstarter page:
“Doing a regular comic has always been a dream of mine so last year I made a New Year’s resolution to post a new strip every Sunday morning at 10 am on my Instagram, @danjodoncomics. According to studies, I had a 9% chance of success,” O’Donoghue writes. “At the risk of sounding pretentious (or delusional,) this comic project was also an attempt to slow down time. I have two kids who are growing at an alarming rate, and I wondered if spending a few hours each week focusing on a moment inspired by my life would pump the time-brakes.”
Despite the odds against it, O’Donoghue made his goal.
“I’m happy to report that I successfully posted 52 comic strips in 2023, never missing a Sunday. This book is a collection of those comics, along with a few strips from 2022, some behind-the-scenes work, and a few strips that were never released!”
The project runs through March 20 and can be backed here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/danjodon/based-on-a-conversation
