Former Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Jim Shooter headed to OKC in May
Midweek update: GalaxyCon Oklahoma City announces Jim Shooter as guest
GalaxyCon Oklahoma City has announced former Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Jim Shooter will be a guest at the show in May.
GalaxyCon Oklahoma City will be held from May 24-26, 2024, at The Oklahoma City Convention Center, 100 Mick Cornett Drive in Oklahoma City.
Shooter has a long and impressive history in comics. He began writing his own comics at age 13, selling his first comic-book story at age 14 to DC Comics, an Adventure Comics story featuring the Legion of Superheroes.
Shooter was Marvel Comics Editor-In-Chief from 1978 to 1987, during which time he wrote “Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars.”
In 1989, Shooter founded Valiant Comics, which revived the Gold Key heroes Magnus, Robot Fighter; Solar, Man of the Atom; and Turok, Dinosaur Hunter. He was also involved in creating new Valiant characters, including the Harbinger team, X-O Manowar, and Shadowman.
After being ousted from Valiant, Shooter formed Defiant Comics in 1993 and Broadway Comics in 1995.
In 2007, Shooter returned to DC for a new run on the Legion of Super-Heroes comics. In 2009, he wrote new stories with the old Gold Key characters Solar, Magnus, and Turok for Dark Horse Comics.
Matthew Price, matthew@matthewlprice.com, has written about the comics industry for more than two decades. He is the co-owner of Speeding Bullet Comics in Norman, Oklahoma.
Ah, a new convention FINALLY arises from that new convention space. Very curious how it will go.
