Midweek update: Meet Breyden Boyd at Speeding Bullet Comics

Free Comic Book Day is this Saturday, May 4, 2024!

May the 4th be with you as Speeding Bullet Comics will offer a select free Star Wars comic among the free comics for the day! And we welcome an Oklahoma comic-book creator to the store for a signing to celebrate!

Speeding Bullet Comics, at 614 N Porter Ave. in Norman, OK, will be open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. in special extended FCBD hours! Speeding Bullet will give away 5 selected free comics per customer throughout the day.

The store will also welcome special guest Breyden Boyd, creator of "Shape Man," from noon to 3 p.m.!

Breyden’s search for a creative outlet during the 2020 pandemic helped him discover his love for comic book art. He created a series on TikTok where he redrew characters he created in middle school (nearly 10 years ago!). Heaps of positive feedback from this inspired him to write and illustrate his first comic book, Shape-Man, which would soon become the namesake for Shape Comics!

Shape Comics' style is heavily influenced by the Silver Age of comics, using halftones, paper textures, ink brushes, and specialized fonts to produce that nostalgic, pulpy effect.

Breyden will sign at Speeding Bullet Comics from noon-3 p.m. on Free Comic Book Day!

Free Comic Book Day, held annually on the first Saturday in May, is a worldwide event in which participating comic book shops across North America and worldwide give away selected comic books absolutely free to visiting patrons.

Speeding Bullet Comics will have free comics featuring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Spider-Man, and more!
