Glamorella's Daughter prepares for Kickstarter return
Also in this midweek update: Kung-Fu Legume signing scheduled
One of the most-acclaimed local comic books of recent years is preparing for another crowdfunding run.
“Glamorella’s Daughter,” by writer Charles J. Martin and artist Jerry Bennett is the story of a brilliant neuro-diverse girl with a superhero mother.
The pre-launch Kickstarter page can be found at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/literatipress/glamorellas-daughter-6
Bennett shared plans for the issue via social media.
“Please share! This Kickstarter will LITERALLY provide the means for me to start issue 7. It's our passion to keep this going, and it's your passion that lets us bring it to life,” Bennett writes.
Kirkus Reviews calls the middle-grade comic-book series “exciting and thought-provoking.” It’s distributed by Literati Press, of which Martin is the founder and creative director.
“This story reflects my experience as a father learning to adapt to a brilliant child with a mind that works so differently from my own,” Martin said in a previous interview that ran in my column for The Oklahoman. “I'm encouraged to have heard from other parents who've identified with Glamorella and Comet's struggle to relate to one another. I wish I'd known more as a young father about the gifts and challenges of parenting a child on the spectrum, so I'm hoping this comic might help families lucky enough to have their own Comet in their lives.”
Signing up on the Kickstarter page will allow fans to be notified when the crowdfunding campaign goes live. The campaign will only begin once the team has gotten 100 pre-launch subscribers.
Kung-Fu Legume signing in June
Save the date! Oklahoma City comic creator Michael Adams, creator of “Kung-Fu Legume,” will sign from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 17 at Speeding Bullet Comics, 614 N. Porter Ave., Norman, Oklahoma, as part of the store's 25th-anniversary celebration.
The comics series from Keenspot is in development for an animated series.
The comic book asks, what happens when a can of beans is jettisoned into space, bombarded by TV transmissions from the Kung Fu Network, then struck by lightning while hurtling to Earth? It’s kung-fu action with a superpowered bean in this comedic adventure from Keenspot.
Matthew Price, matthew@matthewlprice.com, has written about the comics industry for more than two decades. He is the co-owner of Speeding Bullet Comics in Norman.
THANK YOU, Matt, for your continued support!
