'Invincible' is focus of November book club
Midweek update: Pioneer Library book club hosted at Speeding Bullet Comics
A teen superhero who now stars in a streaming series is the focus of this month’s book club at Speeding Bullet Comics.
In connection with the Pioneer Library, Speeding Bullet Comics will host a book discussion at 6 p.m. Nov. 21. In this program, we will be discussing “Invincible, Vol. 1: Family Matters” by Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker.
You may be familiar with “Invincible” from the Amazon Prime animated series.
Here’s how Image describes the title:
Mark Grayson is just like most everyone else his age. He's a senior at a normal American high School. He has a crappy part-time job after school and on weekends. He likes girls quite a bit... but doesn't quite understand them. He enjoys hanging out with his friends and sleeping late on Saturdays. The only difference between Mark and everyone else is that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, and as of late, he seems to be inheriting his father's powers. Which sounds okay at first, but how do you follow in your father's footsteps when you know you will never live up to his standards?
The discussion is designed for adults. You may know Kirkman from “The Walking Dead.” He’s one of the most successful comic-book creators of the past 25 years, with other creator-owned titles including “Oblivion Song,” “Outcast” and “Super Dinosaur,” among others. Walker left the “Invincible” series relatively early in the run, replaced by Ryan Ottley, but returned as the lead character designer for the animated series. Walker also returned to pencil several issues throughout the original comics run of “Invincible.”
