Former Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada, who also served as Chief Creative Officer and executive vice president and creative director at Marvel, now is on Substack. His “soft opening” column was full of great stories and information, including when he first met artist Barry Windsor-Smith when Quesada was first starting out at Valiant Comics. Quesada has been an important mover and shaker for decades in comics, at Marvel, at Valiant, part of key storylines at DC, and at his own Event Comics, so the stories he should be able to share are likely to be worth the subscription! Plus, he’s always been a tremendous artist, so I look forward to seeing more of that. Check it out:
New Literati Press Kickstarter coming soon
Last week, I let you know you could sign up on the pre-release Kickstarter page for the new issue of “Glamorella’s Daughter.”
That project can be found at this link and is set to launch after 100 followers sign up to the page.
This week, I wanted to clue you in to another Oklahoma comics-related Kickstarter that’s in the pre-release phase, also from Literati Press.
“Giant Killer,” from Zachary Gilbert, is coming soon, and you can sign up for updates here:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/giantkiller/giant-killer-0
Here’s the description: Uncover the mysteries of this bleak and beautiful world filled with oddities, creatures, monsters, and giants.
Literati creative director Charles J. Martin says via Twitter that “drawing comics is arduous work, so anything you can offer really helps.”
Literati has published an impressive lineup of indie comics, including “Aliengaged,” “We Promised Utopia,” and “Haunted, Beloved.”
Miles Morales returns
The newest Spider-Man animated film is about to hit theaters.
Miles Morales returns to silver screens in “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” opening June 1.
In the new film, Miles is approached by Gwen Stacy to cross the multiverse along with a new team of Spider-People in order to face off with a new, more powerful villain.
This is just one of a host of genre movies hitting in June and beyond, so get your theater picked out. Marvel is tying into the film release with multiple Spider-titles having to do with the film, but I don’t want to hit any accidental spoilers before the film, so for now I’ll just say I’m looking forward to checking it out!
The Spider-Man comics also feature a much-spoiled event in the issue hitting shelves today; I haven’t read it yet, so I’ll withhold comment, but given there’s a chance it sells out quickly, I’ll just note here that it happens in “Amazing Spider-Man” #26, should you need to seek out a copy.
