Oklahoma creators and more set for November events
Word Balloons #1292: ‘Daredevil’ and local creativity collaborations among next month’s plans
Tulsa Comic Con’s Halloween edition welcomes two comic creators with extensive credits to this year’s show, taking place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The event will be held at the Gateway Tulsa Event Center, 851 E Admiral Blvd, Tulsa, OK 74120.
Admission is $10, with children 12 and under admitted free.
Mario Wytch, artist of “Imaginary Drugs,” “Sasquatch” and “Sister Powers” will be on hand for discussions and autographs. His current series, “Sister Powers,” features two superpowered sisters, Faith and Charity, whose lives are turned upside down after inheriting special abilities from their mother.
Also on hand is “Protectors” author R.A. Jones, who revived the Golden Age Centaur characters for Malibu Comics in the 1990s, and in recent years, has been writing yet another version of the Centaur characters in his “Steel Ring” novels.
The con will have an artist alley and a Halloween vibe. Organizer Nick Goltra will again have Artist Alley Card Packs available.
“We’re excited to blend the community’s love for comics with the fun of Halloween,” said Nick Goltra in a news release. “We encourage everyone to come in their best costume and cosplay to really bring the spirit to life. It’s going to be a uniquely entertaining day for fans of all ages.”

‘Ink and Draw’ returning to Norman

‘Daredevil: Man Without Fear’ is subject of November Book Club
In connection with the Pioneer Library, Speeding Bullet Comics will host a book club discussion at 6 p.m. Nov. 20.
This month’s book is “Daredevil: Man Without Fear.”
The book description follows:
Visionaries Frank Miller (The Dark Knight Returns, Sin City) and John Romita Jr. (Uncanny X-Men, Amazing Spider-Man) bring you the definitive Daredevil origin story in “Man Without Fear.”
Matt Murdock was raised by a single father, an over-the-hill prizefighter with one last chance to make it good - a chance that cost him his life. Taunted and tormented by children while growing up, Matt’s life was irrevocably altered after he was blinded by radioactive materials while saving the life of an old man. The payoff? An unbreakable will and a keen intelligence, helping focus the super-senses he was blessed with during the accident. His story is one of love, pain, disappointment, and strength.
The Book Club sessions are hosted by Dave Brown and designed for adults.
Matthew Price, matthew@matthewLprice.com, has written about the comics industry for more than two decades. He is the co-owner of Speeding Bullet Comics in Norman.
