The Pryor Creek Comic convention returns this weekend with guests from the world of TV, art and comics.
Guests at the show will include artist Muriel Fahrion, known for Strawberry Shortcake, the Care Bears, and the Get Along Gang, and actor Gary Sandy, who played Andy Travis in the sitcom “WKRP in Cincinnati.”
Sandy is scheduled to be at the show from noon to 2 p.m. and will be circulating around the convention as opposed to at a set table.
Fahrion created the characters behind the Strawberry Shortcake line of toys and TV specials and also created the first concept art for the Care Bears and The Get Along Gang.
The Care Bears are a multicolored group of teddy bear-like characters who feature a badge on their bellies reflecting their personalities.
The Get Along Gang had a TV series, comic book series, and toy lines in the 1980s. Tulsa artist Muriel Fahrion was involved in the creation of the "Get Along Gang."
The Get Along Gang was a group of anthropomorphized animal buddies, including Montgomery Moose, Bingo Beaver, and Dotty Dog, who had to learn to get along in a series of cartoons loosely inspired by the “Our Gang” film shorts.
Other guests set for the show are John Wooley, Brad Sinor, Rob Soul, John Ketcher, James Hostler, Arya Roberts, and the creatives from Equinox Comics.
The Real Oklahoma Ghostbusters are scheduled for attendance, and “star” cars will be outside the event for photo ops.
Admission to the convention is $5. Kids 10-under will be admitted free.
The show, organized by longtime Oklahoma journalist Jimmie Tramel, will feature comics of all genres as well as toys, action figures, games, books, magazines and other pop culture-related items.
The convention will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Mayes County Event Center on the fairgrounds in Pryor.

“Bad Candy” signing scheduled
On Oct. 28 — welcome Robert Henry and Dirk Hooper to sign copies of the Oklahoma-based, Halloween-themed “Bad Candy” comic book! They’ll be on hand from noon-3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28.
Henry is a photographer, artist, and Oklahoma native with comic-book credits including the “Rough Cut” comic book series of the 1990s.
Dirk Hooper is a professional artist, award-winning professional writer, award-winning photographer, audio talent, podcasting producer and host, journalist, mentor, and personal branding and marketing consultant. He’s the cover artist on “Bad Candy”#3.
Henry originally conceived of the pumpkin-headed Halloween character as an “Inktober” sketch in 2015. “Inktober” is a challenge where artists draw a sketch each day of October, often based on a specific prompt.
The series, set in 1982, features the farming family the Lewises, who provide an offering to a spirit known as Bad Candy each October. But when bank robbers on the run take over the Lewis’ house, the offering isn’t made, and trouble ensues.
