See Jerry Bennett at the Tulsa Comic Swap
Midweek update: OKC artist set for Father's Day event
The Tulsa Comic Swap on Father’s Day will welcome one of Oklahoma City’s favorite comic-book artists.
Oklahoma City artist Jerry Bennett, of the comic book “Glamorella’s Daughter,” is a headlining guest for the convention, held in the Glenpool Convention Center.
“Glamorella’s Daughter,” by writer Charles J. Martin and artist Jerry Bennett is the story of a brilliant neuro-diverse girl with a superhero mother.
Kirkus Reviews calls the middle-grade comic-book series “exciting and thought-provoking.” It’s distributed by Literati Press, of which Martin is the founder and creative director.
Meanwhile, on Kickstarter, Literati Press is seeking funds for a creative writing center as part of its bookshop location. You can find out more about this project, and back it if you are interested, at the link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/literatipress/literati-press-creative-writing-center
Bennett is on tap to teach potential workshops at the Literati center. But in the meantime, you can see the gregarious artist at the Tulsa Comic Swap, and get caught up on his latest adventures.
The Tulsa Comic Swap will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 16 at the Glenpool Conference Center, 12205 S Yukon Ave in Glenpool, Oklahoma. Admission is $5; kids 12 and under attend free.
Speeding Bullet anniversary party
If you’re in Norman this Saturday, stop by to see a great group of creators and celebrate 26 years of Speeding Bullet Comics.
Oklahoma comic creators Jared Blount and Tyler Kelting of “Strange Animals” will sign from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. June 15 at Speeding Bullet Comics, 614 N. Porter Ave. in Norman, as part of the store’s 26th anniversary celebration.
Author Chuck Miller will also be on hand from noon-3 p.m. June 15 to sign his works! Miller most recently wrote the novel “Kolchak – The Ripper” in which the Kolchak, the Night Stalker character faces off against a seemingly immortal Jack the Ripper.
Pop-up art events at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. will be hosted by artists Phillip Hollecker (if possible) and Mike Kennedy. They’ll showcase some of their quick-draw sketch skills and be on hand to offer tips and tricks to aspiring artists as well!
Meanwhile, get some deals while you’re in the door:
Sale items for June 14-16 include 20 percent off all back issues and 20 percent off toys & figures.
