Speeding Bullet Comics sets slate of October events
Word Balloons #1288: Book clubs, creativity collaborations and more mark October plans
Storytelling for elementary students, book clubs for adults, and art collaborations for all are among the plans for Speeding Bullet Comics in October.
The first to kick off is the fourth “Kraken” sale, starting this week at Speeding Bullet Comics, 614 N. Porter Ave. in Norman, Oklahoma.
The Kraken Sale will feature 50 percent off hundreds of trade paperbacks and will continue from Oct. 1 through Oct. 26, Wednesdays-Sundays.
Check out spinners throughout the store marked as Kraken Sale items for bargains on a wide variety of books and graphic novels. Deals on titles including hardcovers, paperbacks, children’s books, and more from publishers including Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse and others will be available.
Keep checking back during each week of October to see what new surprises the Kraken has found! Kraken Sale items can be found on specially marked racks throughout the store.
Super Story Telling for October!
Elementary students, join Rachel from 1 - 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4 for snacks and a reading of the Carl Barks Donald Duck Halloween tale, “The Jet Witch.”
In the story, Donald buzzes Duckburg on a jet-powered broom, and Halloween havoc ensues.
Our storytelling event is intended for elementary school students.
‘Ink and Draw’ coming to Norman
Speeding Bullet is jumping back into the “Ink and Draw” space this fall for events hosted by the Oklahoma Comic Arts Foundation. These events are intended to allow illustrators and writers to talk craft, trade tips, and root for the next great project to be created in our state.
The next “Ink and Draw” at Speeding Bullet Comics will be from 2-3:30 p.m on Sunday, Oct. 5! This month, mentor Jeff Provine (“Okie Comics”) will be on hand to answer questions and review portfolios!
‘Ghost Tree’ is subject of October Book Club
In connection with the Pioneer Library, Speeding Bullet Comics will host a book club discussion at 6 p.m. Oct. 16.
This month’s book is “Ghost Tree” from IDW.
The book description is as follows:
Seeking refuge from an unhappy life, Brandt returns to his ancestral home in Japan to find a haunted tree and the departed souls that are drawn to it, including his Grandfather. Getting more involved with the tree’s inhabitants, he attempts to heal some of history’s wounds, but will he be able to find any measure of peace for himself when someone special from his past returns?
Ghost Tree is a quiet story full of reflection and how one deals with the emotions of life, the past, and family. It deftly weaves elements of the supernatural into the narrative, but ultimately this is a story about people and relationships, how the past informs the present, and how one cannot run away from one’s problems.
The Book Club sessions are hosted by Dave Brown and designed for adults.
Stay tuned for more October events, including “Trick or Read” featuring comics from Marvel and Dark Horse Comics.
