'Superman for All Seasons' is focus of October book club
Midweek update: Discussion will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at Speeding Bullet Comics
In connection with the Pioneer Library, Speeding Bullet Comics will host a discussion at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 of the DC collected edition comic book “Superman for All Seasons.”
Here’s how DC describes the series:
Before Superman…before Clark Kent, ace reporter for the Daily Planet…there was just Clark, a humble farm boy from Smallville, Kansas, who was figuring out his place in the world.
Witness the birth of a hero in this retelling of the Man of Steel’s formative years by the Eisner Award-winning team of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, with beautiful hand-painted colors provided by Bjarne Hansen. This updated softcover edition collects Superman for All Seasons #1-4 and tie-in backup stories by Loeb and Sale from Superman/Batman Secret Files & Origins 2003 #1, Solo #1, Superman #226, and Superman/Batman #26.
The book club discussion is designed for adults.
Eisner award-winning comic book artist Tim Sale died June 16, 2022, after a brief hospitalization.
Sale drew a string of best-sellers for both Marvel and DC Comics after starting his comics career in independent comics back in the 1980s. He became best-known for his collaborations with writer Jeph Loeb, which began with the 1991 revival of “Challengers of the Unknown.” They followed with “Batman: The Long Halloween,” an arc that has inspired multiple cinematic takes, a toy line and a generation of creators. Loeb and Sale continued on “Batman: Dark Victory” and “Superman For All Seasons,” as well as series featuring the Hulk, Spider-Man, and Daredevil. Sale’s artwork was also featured in the TV series “Heroes.”
DC is currently releasing a tribute series to Sale written by Jeph Loeb, “Batman: The Last Halloween.”
