'The Good Asian' to be focus of September graphic novel discussion
Midweek update: Also, a podcast looks at the end of an Image Comics spinoff
In connection with Pioneer Library, Speeding Bullet Comics will host a graphic novel discussion on Thursday, Sept. 19.
The discussion group will focus on the graphic novel “The Good Asian” this month.
This Image Comics series was written by Pornsak Pichetshote, with art by Alexandre Tefenkgi, and Lee Loughridge.
Here’s how Image describes the series: Follow Edison Hark, a haunted, self-loathing Chinese-American detective, as he pursues a brutal killer on the streets of 1936 San Francisco. THE GOOD ASIAN is a noir mystery exploring the first generation of Americans to come of age under an immigration ban – the Chinese – as they’re besieged by rampant murders, abusive police, and a world that seemingly never changes.
Dave Brown of the Pioneer Library System will lead the discussion, hosted at Speeding Bullet Comics, 614 N. Porter Ave. in Norman, Oklahoma.
Registration is available here: https://pioneer.libnet.info/event/10648740
Designed for adults, this event starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19.
Podcast looks at Image Comics title’s wrapup
I recently joined with Dean Compton and Jesse Starcher to review the 1990s comics storyline “Opposing Forces,” which crossed over between the Cyberforce and Codename: Stryke Force titles. Both teams feature Stryker, the four-armed cybernetic soldier. This story arc wraps up the “Stryke Force” title.
The episode is the 120th “Unspoken Issues” podcast, focusing on comics of the 1990s, and is part of the “Source Material” podcast series. Check out the episode below via YouTube:
