Trading cards, comics among products planned for Transformers’ 40th anniversary
Midweek update: Roll out of products to take place during 2024
Hasbro has announced several initiatives for the 40th anniversary of the “Transformers” property in 2024, including toys, games, and comics. More than 40 distinct Hasbro Transformers anniversary figures are slated for release.
Publisher Dynamite Entertainment has snagged a piece of the anniversary party, announcing 40th anniversary trading cards.
From the news release:
Collect a new set of nearly 200 premium trading cards featuring fan-favorite characters from the TRANSFORMERS brand’s “Generation 1” era, showcasing classic art styles from an international array of top artists and Hasbro’s design archives. More information and product previews will be shared in the future.
The Transformers are alien robots who can change shape to resemble mechanical earth objects, including cars and planes. The property debuted in 1984 with toys, comics, and a cartoon series.
Skybound, Robert Kirkman’s imprint at Image Comics, holds the current license to “Transformers” comics, which is part of the “Energon Universe” line, including “Void Rivals” and characters from the “G.I. Joe” property.

New comic books and graphic novel collections based on the TRANSFORMERS series will be released this year. As part of the new shared Energon Universe from visionary creator Robert Kirkman, TRANSFORMERS, G.I. JOE and Void Rivals characters come together for a truly special comic book experience that has broken industry sales records. A new graphic novel compendium series collecting the landmark TRANSFORMERS series from Marvel Comics will also launch Fall 2024.
“Transformers & G.I. Joe: Welcome to the Energon Universe” is a Free Comic Book Day release in May from Skybound and Image Comics. The first “Transformers” collection of the Skybound comics is also due in May.
