SoonerCon 31 will be held June 30-July 2 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center, 2501 Conference Drive, in Norman, Oklahoma.
The pop culture show runs from Friday-Sunday, and more information is at soonercon.com. The show has a wide assortment of guests and a large number of panels. I always find it one of the social highlights of the season.
I am scheduled to appear on three panels over the weekend.
I’ll be a panelist on “The Age of the Mega Media Machine” at 2 p.m. Friday, discussing how ownership of large media conglomerates may affect messaging and narrative.
On Saturday at 1 p.m. I’ll appear on the Reading is Power panel, discussing the importance of reading and its power to inspire free thinking. I’ve always been very pro-literacy, and I’ve only become more so as time goes by. Reading is important for empathy, for understanding, and for escape. Not to mention all the educational benefits.
And my final panel of the weekend goes to a galaxy far, far away for the panel called This is the Way, to discuss the adventures of the Mandalorian and Grogu in the “Star Wars” universe. This panel is set for 4 p.m. Saturday.
More about SoonerCon in Friday’s column, but it’s a good time now to go ahead make your plans and get your tickets for the show.
